soap: Hollyoaks Although this hasn't been confirmed as the reason baby Grace died in Hollyoaks (though i missed E4's episode last night), i nevertheless thought it was a good topic to bring up. I know we have some parents here of older kids and very young kids, so what are your concerns and understanding of sudden infant death syndrome? Some suggestions for prevention: Place your baby on the back to sleep Cut smoking in pregnancy - fathers too! Do not let anyone smoke in the same room as your baby Do not let your baby get too hot (or too cold) Keep baby's head uncovered - place your baby with their feet to the foot of the cot, to prevent wriggling down under the covers Do not share a bed with your baby if you have been drinking alcohol, take illegal substances or if you are a smoker If your baby is unwell, seek medical advice promptly source: www.sids.org.uk/Obviously the loss of any child old or young, by any means is devastating for the parents and family, in cases never being able to mve on. So what are your concerns about SIDS. How do you feel about it? Have any of you ever thought of it? Especially the parents here, but even then even if your not a parent have you ever given it much thought?

Smoking is bad anyway and it should be smokefree in the house before a mother is pregnant.

We actually for the first yr told the smokers in the family to change their clothes first before holding the babies. It didn't go over well at first, but soon it was just second nature. We did all those suggestions Peter. SIDS is very scary, but one doctor told us that there are times it can't be avoided and that when it happens you can't revive them even if you're right there. Very sad.

Very true, the unpredictability of it is the very scary aspect. You can take all the precautions and it can still happen and one of the many most harrofying things that can happen to any parent.

I was lucky I had big babies that slept They say that bigger babies seem to be more resistant but still have no idea what causes it I might rephrase that statement I was lucky ( after the birth) not at the birth that I had big babies LOL

Back when I was born ( when dinosaurs roamed the earth ) if you were 6 pounds you were a big baby. Now 8 pounds is considered normal.

I am 5` 4 " Mills already is almost to my chest and is only 10 yrs old. I think she will be taller than me within 2 or 3 yrs. Hubby is 5` 10 " so she could be 5` 7' easily.

I think she is on a growth spurt right now, I just let the hem down on 3 pairs of her pants. !! I remember maybe two years ago she was so upset. It was school picture day and for the class photo the photographer sat her in front on the end of the row. She asked him why she had to sit there since she wanted to sit next to her friend. The photographer told her she was the shortest in her class and had to sit on the end. She came home all upset about being the shortest - she said it was not fair "even the Chinese Kid is taller than me." ....... LOL....
